Why #TheLextropolis was started...I got an answer!
My eyes become teary as I think back eight years ago when the late Patrick J. Mitchell and I sat at the round table in my office discussing with Joy Bolton-Berry, Dana S. Branham, Brent Mason, and Joyce Johnson our plans regarding The Lextropolis. The FOUR MUSKETEERS - Patrick, Joy, Dana, and yours truly have given a lot of time, commitment, dedication, and love for our Community through the magazine. For that, I will always be grateful! I love you guys for believing in me and what we were doing...telling our stories, spotlighting our youth, and showcasing minority businesses.
Have you ever wondered why it's so crucial? The need becomes evident when we observe how our communities are misrepresented in mainstream media. Often, the focus remains solely on the negative aspects, perpetuating stereotypes of drug trafficking, robberies, and arrests. Rarely do we witness stories about the CEOs, doctors, lawyers, heroes, and everyday neighbors who contribute positively, or the events happening within our community. This is where The Lextropolis comes in, providing relatable and authentic stories that allow us to connect.
The impact on our children cannot be understated. They deserve to see and be inspired by positive role models, realizing that they, too, can achieve great things. It's not about race; it's about giving our communities a voice and empowering the next generation. There's so much to share, and the list goes on, but the message is clear.
A heartfelt and resounding shout-out goes to THE LEXTROPOLIS TEAM!
